LSAT – 5 More Great Tips For Success

1. The Most Important Meal of the Day

Eating a good breakfast will never be more important than on the morning of your LSAT — ever. Make sure you eat a healthy breakfast that will give you energy to stay awake and focus during your test. Overeating may have the opposite effect and make you tired instead, and eating unhealthy foods may upset your stomach and distract you. Make sure to use the restroom before leaving home as well!

2. Forty Winks

Cramming is a way of life for many people (I’m looking at you, college students), but cramming for the LSAT is not a good idea. Staying up all night, drinking energy drinks, hunched over your desk reviewing materials is more likely to lower your score than raise it. Why? Getting a good night’s sleep the night before your exam will help you stay alert and focused during your test; staying up late, on the other hand, will probably make you groggy and irritable. Cramming in practice problem after practice problem until you pass out can also be detrimental. Studies have shown that most people won’t remember things that they cram in at the last second, so all that work you did in the wee hours of the morning will not only have been for nothing, but will most likely tire out your brain, too. Begin preparation for the LSAT early so that you can go to bed (early) the night before feeling confident and calm and wake up refreshed and ready for the exam.

3. Unfashionably Late

The LSAT isn’t your cousin’s birthday party, so don’t arrive late. If you’re late, you will not be let in. But no fear! If something should happen and for some reason you can’t make it to your test center, you will simply be marked “absent.” Of course, you won’t get a refund, and you’ll have to pay the full registration fee to schedule another test, but being “absent” is not a score of 0, and it will not factor into your score reports. Check the LSAC website for information on what time to arrive at the testing center — and don’t be late!

4. Dress for Success

Wear easily adjustable layers on the day of your test. Who knows what the thermostat was set to in the testing room, and the last thing you want is to lose points because your shivering arms made a stray mark on the answer booklet.

5. Play Games

For a lot of students, the logic games section of the LSAT is a nightmare. Unlike critical reasoning and reading comprehension, logic games aren’t something that students have had exposure to during the course of their regular educations. But logic games, aka analytical reasoning, are nothing to fear! Make sure to draw clear diagrams that will help you identify the relationships between the question components and visualize the problem. Just like anything else, all it takes is patience and practice. Logic games may be unfamiliar at first, but the more games you play, the better you get, and the higher your score will be!
