Instagram recently announced a feature which they are test out, that would allo users to easily verify their ages, starting from the US.

Instagram is a great social media platform and provides several photo services, they are owned by Meta Platforms Inc (META).

They mentioned that they are testing two new ways to verify a person’s age, in addition to allowing them to upload their identity proof online.

The director of data governance at Meta, Erica Finkle, , said in a blog post that…

“When we know if someone is a teen (13-17 years), we provide them with age-appropriate experiences like defaulting them into private accounts, preventing unwanted contact from adults they don’t know and limiting the options advertisers have to reach them with ads,”

Instagram said they are partnering with a company that specializes in age verification, called YOTI. And they help protect users privacy.

Users can upload a video selfie to verify their age, after which Yoti’s technology estimates their age based on facial features. Both Meta and Yoti will delete the image once the age has been verified, Instagram addressed.

Just to know that this idea came into action after Instagram launched Instagram Kids and received heavy criticism and oppositions against the project.
